Week Thirty - Shiny!!

This week was a little bit more of a risk. I decided to give something a go that I really could't visualise or know how it was going to look or if I would even like them. Eek! turns out I did lol! I went to a really lovely restaurant along the canal the other day with Matt and the waitress had on these amazing high waisted, silky red trousers. I couldn't stop looking at them. I hope she didn't notice. Awkward. Anyway since then I wanted to give it a go. So I did, and here is what I made.

Put with a little punk looking top for effect. Awesome!

This is the pattern I used. This amazing pattern I got for only £4 something on sale at sewdirect.com has already provided many a creation and I have only used the jacket and trouser pieces.

If I was to be totally honest I am still a little eek! what did you make there? not sure if I will wear them but they were fun to do and you never know there may just be the right occasion for trousers this shiny! no idea what that will be but I know it will be a good one. What do you think?

Week Twenty Nine

This week is monochrome! and a little revisit to the peplum. Love a peplum and I think as I keep making them they get a little better each time. So I don't really have a huge amount to say this week, not a great way to start a post ha! but I think I will let the pictures show what I got up to.

This is just a little theme starter! not the fabric sadly. Would love some fabric like this though.

Above are a few little ideas I found on the net. I really love the elegance of the lace. Peplums are so fun to wear and great for covering up a little belly!

Below is a collection of my peplums. Looking back at them, like I said earlier I do think I might be getting a little better at them. Especially the design ideas. This monochrome idea is definitely my favourite.

Week six
Week Eight
Week Nineteen

The patterns I used for this creation was a mix of the Vogue peplum pattern I got from sewdirect.com which I used for the other peplum projects and the Elisalex dress from By hand London This pattern I used in last weeks creation to make the green dress. I loved the neckline so much, especially the V back, very pretty so I wanted to use it again and thought it would be great for the bodice of this peplum.

And here it is.  A mix of faux leather, actually a fabric left over from week six's peplum and a white, flower lace I got when back at home one time. Together they made this fun top. I dont normally wear black leggins but they seemed perfect especially with the white socks. ha! I hope you all like it. I hope you all like it.

Week Twenty Eight - The Elisalex Dress

This is my Elisalex dress from a pattern by 'BY HAND LONDON', which is a London based company owned by Charlotte Hintzen and Elisalex De Castro Peake. I had seen this pattern on a few blogs and was instantly drawn in by the packaging design. Having a graphic design degree, I think makes me easily drawn in by these things but I think anyone would be interested by its unique style. Because I was already giddy by the outside, the thought of what was inside was even more exciting.

The dress patten it holds is such a beautiful shape and a definite template from which many, many different styles could be created. A description taken from their website states "The designs themselves are an up-to-date take on classic silhouettes and so act as a canvas for your unique look"

I had to buy one and for £12, which normally is a little more than I would pay for a pattern but for this I made an exception.

Opening up the packaging and pulling all the bits out was a delight, even reading through the instructions was fun and I never enjoy reading instructions. I couldn't wait to get cutting and sewing.

I thought that for this creation I needed a really lovely fabric that would go well with my colouring so could be worn in pride for a special occasion or just on a summers day.

This heavy cotton I found in John Lewis for £8 metre, which I didn't think was too bad and due to the weight would be great for the tulip skirt. The colour is bright and fun and teamed with these sweet little yellow buttons would be even better. I got quite a few with the intentions of a full strip down the front, however I only decided to use a couple.

I am super pleased with how it turned out. The skirt sits perfectly and baloons out just enough. It's going to be a treat to wear and I can't wait.
